Laura Russom is a passionate and dedicated dance teacher who has been teaching since the age of fourteen. She has been dancing since the age of three and won numerous awards and titles while competing. She also danced with the Joffery Ballet, in the role of Clara’s friend, and with The San Francisco Ballet in the role of Arabian. After high school, she was a member of the national award winning Long Beach State Dance Team. She also was a member of the Los Angeles Laker Girls for two years. In addition she has appeared in numerous commercials, including Target and Subway, and television shows, including dancing in the opening number of The Emmy Awards on CBS. She currently teaches lyrical, jazz, modern, ballet and pointe. She has a strong ballet background and believes good ballet technique is the core of every good dancer.
Her teaching style includes consistently pushing the dancers’ boundaries to strive to work harder. She believes in good technique and challenging her students with new dance moves. Teaching dance is not just a job for Miss Laura – it is her passion.
She has won many numerous awards, including Most Creative and Best Technique, for her choreography and her dances. She puts 110% into her teaching and her choreography. Miss Laura says that choreography is not just about putting moves to music; instead it is a way for the dancer to communicate an emotion or tell a story through their dancing to the audience. She works hard to keep her classes both fun and challenging for the dancers. Miss Laura can be quoted by most of her students as saying “It doesn’t matter how high your leg is or how many turns you do; if your toe isn’t pointed, it doesn’t count!”
She currently lives in Irvine with her husband and their two sons. She says that besides being a mom, being a dance teacher is the greatest job on Earth!
